I
hope everyone survived the holidays without too much added weight! December was
very busy for Functional Conditioning. For the twelve days preceding Christmas,
I had a reoccurring appearance on 9news for their health and fitness segments. I
was also in the Spotlight section of the January 1st, 2002 Denver Rocky Mountain
News. Functional Conditioning is taking off beyond my wildest dreams! I
personally want to thank all of you for the wonderful referrals. My goal is to
deliver truthful health and wellness information to as many people as possible.
At a time when information gets twisted and the general public becomes more
confused, you can count on me delivering only the TRUTH.
The New Year has arrived and I am sure that some
of you have made a resolution to lose weight, quit smoking or any number of good
intentions. Unfortunately, this only seems to last a few days or just a few
weeks. So, let’s shoot for something more obtainable. How about just being
happy?
You might ask, what does that have to do with
fitness? I am committed to improving all aspects of your lives. When you are
happy, things have a way of coming together all by themselves. I see people who
dislike their jobs, spouse, themselves and many other things. We do not know how
long our journey on Earth will be. Do you think that it should be miserable or
should we relish in each day? People think that material goods will bring them
happiness. People who have a lot of material possessions are no happier than
people without.
I want to help you find happiness in yourself. I
feel this can be achieved through taking care of yourself in all aspects of
health both emotionally and physically. Feeling good about yourself will help in
your home and work life. I feel that negativity breeds more negativity. It seems
that people who are always negative seem to always have bad things happening to
them. Misery loves company. Where as positive people tend to have more positive
things happening to them.

So, take the first step! A lot of
people want to start a fitness and health program, but they do not know where to
start. Here are some simple steps to follow:
Step 1 - Commit to yourself and others
that you want to make a positive change in your life.
Step 2 - Make a list of obtainable goals
both short and long term.
Step 3 - Evaluate what you have been doing
that is destructive to your happiness.
Step 4 - Realize that eating certain foods
do not bring happiness only temporary pleasure.
Step 5 - Get baselines on your metabolic
rate and wellness levels.
Step 6 - Ease into an exercise program
either at home or at a gym. (30 minutes is all you need)
Step 7 - Schedule follow up visits so you
are accountable to someone.
Step 8 - Do the best you can! If you have
a bad day, do not abandon the entire program. If you were driving to your dream
vacation would you turn around and go home if you had a flat tire?
The name Functional Conditioning was not an
accident. I believe that fitness should roll over into your everyday life. I
have clients who are better skiers, better gardeners, and better hikers because
my fitness programs are designed to strengthen their body for a whole life. This
remains true for both the young and the older population.
I have to laugh when I see someone bench pressing
300 pounds, but he cannot walk up a flight of stairs without being winded. The
same thing applies to people who only do aerobic activities. When it comes to
strength, they cannot open a jar of jelly.
I am convinced that most people do not want a
trainer, a workout or to watch what they eat. They only want results! Just like
people do not want braces, they want straight teeth. So, the people who are
willing to part with their hard earned money on some magic potion, pill or
exercise gadget are sure to be disappointed when they do not see those promised
results. I make your exercising time work smarter not necessarily harder. The
saying of no pain, no gain isn’t spoken at Functional Conditioning. You deserve
to be happy, and enjoy all that life has to offer. So don’t put off your health
and wellness another year.
Hoping your New Year is one of health
and happiness!
