Someday
is the Busiest Day of the Week...
I hope everyone is doing well. The Olympics were sure
fun to watch this year! I have always admired those people who can put their
mind to something, and follow through with it to become the best in the world.
Think about the mental toughness that the athlete must have to accomplish their
goal. He or she has spent their entire life working on one skill or group
of skills to showcase, and if one small thing goes wrong, all the training may
be for nothing. Are they focused on the journey or the destination?
I am amazed at how many people are waiting for the
perfect opportunity to start a diet and exercise program. The day always
seems to be a Monday. By Wednesday, someone has had a birthday party at
work, and they brought your favorite cake. So, the next thought process is
“this week is a total bust so maybe next Monday would be a better time to
start”. Does this sound familiar to anyone? So many Mondays come and
go... still the only direction you are going in is the wrong one. Here is my
list of favorite someday excuses I frequently hear. Someday I will:
1. Start exercising again
2. Go back to school
3. Find a better job
4. Make better food choices
5. Work on the yard or house project
6. Start planning for retirement
7. Buy my spouse a unexpected gift
8. Reconnect on a lost friendship
9. Apologize to someone who you had wronged
10. Clean out the garage
11. Make room in the basement so you can start exercising again
12. Take the dog for a walk
13. Get out of debt
14. Schedule a massage
15. Call my mom and dad just to say “I love you”
16. Go to church
17. Take my car in for service
18. Schedule a doctor’s physical
19. Try to get off medications that would be helped by diet and exercise
20. Get into the clothes I want to wear, not the fat ones.
Do any of these someday excuses ring true for you? What
are you doing to change it? Or are you content sitting on your ass doing nothing
and whining that nothing is getting done? One of my favorite stories is
about an old dog half-asleep on the porch of the general store, moaning and
groaning in the sun. “Why is your dog acting that way?" a customer asked the
store owner. “Oh," answered the man, “he's lying on a nail." “Well, why doesn't
he move?" “Because it's not hurting him bad enough."

Are you moaning and groaning about your situation? Then,
either quit complaining or do something about it!!! If you are tired of being
fat, then do something about it!!! If your job sucks, then find a new one. If
you are sick and tired of being sick and tired, then do something about it!!!
What are you waiting for? Are you waiting for all the planets to align and/or
for you to win the lottery?
NO MORE EXCUSES
The time is now to make your someday into today.
How long do you have to live on earth? Are you going to assume that you will
live to be 100? How are you going to feel even 10 years from now if you
continue on your same path? If counting calories is not your thing, then
let’s find another way for you to be successful. If you hate going to the
gym then let’s make a home exercise program for you. Give me all your
excuses, and I will help you to overcome them.
To all of those I know who already are taking care of
themselves, I applaud you. Do not, however, put down your guard. It
is so very easy to slip into bad habits. Too many times I have seen people
get into the best shape of their lives, only to become complacent about it and
go the opposite direction.
For me, the breaking point 11 years ago was when I was
shaving and looked at myself in the mirror and thought, “I have a family and
look at how fat and out of shape I am”. I was disgusted with how I looked.
Up until that point, I had always worn loose fitting clothes and never really
looked at myself objectively. I have struggled my entire adult life with
my weight, and as I write this newsletter some of the anger is pointed at
myself. I love to eat the foods that we are not supposed to eat, and I
don't always jump at the chance to exercise. But I have learned to not
beat myself up about the past. The only thing I have control over is the
here and now. If someone brings me brownies on a Tuesday or I miss a
workout, I don't want to destroy the rest of my week waiting for the next Monday
or someday.
Client of the

Toni - Before
Toni - AFTER
Toni has been working out with Bob for the past year.
I have helped her with body fat measurements and metabolic testing. Toni
entered a fitness competition with 130 other people and finished 3rd! Toni
dropped her body fat percentage from 34% to 18.6%! In doing so, she lost
24 pounds. We could not be more proud of Toni! She also has her
husband and daughter working out. Fitness is a lifestyle and having family
doing it with you really does help….
