The beginning of every year millions of people make a resolution to lose weight, but more than 85% of those people fail to keep their resolution the entire year.

The biggest problem I see that people have is the all or nothing mentality. They believe that they have to be perfect on both the diet and exercise program or they quit all together. Imagine going to the dentist and finding out you have one cavity. Would you then just stop brushing your teeth? You already have a cavity what difference does it make to continue to brush and floss your teeth?  Could that one cavity get deeper? Would it then lead to a root canal and a crown? Would you then develop more cavities? Would it be less expensive to get it fixed now or wait and pretend you did not have a problem? Although, this seems absurd, I see it every single day. My philosophy is to do the best you can each and every day.

I have worked with some clients for years and years and we have the exercise program dialed in. The food was a struggle but sooner than later everything just began to click. Even if you are only exercising one time per week here, it is better than doing NOTHING all the time.  That is the same thinking as the cavity.

If you for some reason you decided to work out on your own and not come to Functional Conditioning, at any point you would be welcome to come back with open arms. I am not here to judge you or make you feel bad about yourself. I have my own personal demons that I fight in regards to weight loss and weight gain. For so many of my clients I have grown to love you over the years and think of you as family.

What makes Functional Conditioning work for so many people is that it is a lifestyle change. Taking each day and doing the best we can. It is not as dramatic as the TV show The Biggest Loser. If I did not care about helping my clients, I would be doing something entirely different (I always wanted to be a cop). What breaks my heart is I had a client who was doing outstanding - he made exercise a priority and really enjoyed doing it! He kept an accurate food journal and in six months lost over 50 pounds. He was self employed and his business really took off. He started skipping workouts and did not have time to keep a food journal. He also told me he was too busy to make any future appointments with me. I just found out he had a massive stroke and is a vegetable and is unable to work or support his family. He is not even 60 years old. DO YOU THINK HE HAS TIME NOW?

Please do not wait to do something about your health and wellness. Life is precious; enjoy your friends and family. Think about the quality of life you want, not just the quantity.

May all of you have a wonderful 2010!!
