Here is what our clients have to say about

Functional Conditioning...

Brian, thank you for everything, Not only are you a wonderful trainer, you are a wonderful person. Kai from the hit TV show The Biggest Loser...

I have been with Brian as a client for over 5 years. I have lost body fat and weight, gained muscle mass. I have learned how to nourish and train my body for a long and healthy life. Brian has given me more than just a trainer/client relationship. Brian Barkley is my friend, mentor and cheering section. I pray that our association is for life.
Sincerely,
Hazel Miller

I think the biggest thing for me has been that I wanted to do “something” to be healthy and to change my ways…I had no idea that I was personally capable of affecting such dramatic change in myself. Of course, the weight loss has been great, but the way I feel has been even greater! This reinforces to me that you can do anything, if you really put your mind (and discipline!) to it! If I can do something like this, truly, anyone can! After 41 years of a pretty unhealthy life, if I can make a lifestyle change, then just about any one else can do the same. Brian, thank you, you and my new program has been an enhancement to my life, not an additional item on my to do list!                                                                      Terry

You know, Brian, it is because of you teaching me how to keep strong and healthy and to take time for myself that I am doing so well. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
Patti

Thank you so much for everything - especially helping me get to my bikini goal for the Puerto Rico trip. It was incredible! I appreciate your patience, your guidance and encouragement. You're the best!

I just wanted to thank you for all you do for my patients that I send.  They all love you and are very appreciative for me referring them to you.  It sure makes it easier to know that you personally take the time to listen to each one of them and address their concerns.  I have no qualms at all when I give someone your brochure and feel very confident and excited that I have an answer that will finally help them without prescribing another medication.  Anyway, thanks again , you're the best...And most of all thanks for helping me not only accomplish my personal goals but giving me that confidence back to maintain that...Heidi Davis, PA

What can I say about Brian Barkley. Many words come to mind: slave-driver, torturer, someone who deprived me of large portions of food and VERY expensive...ah, Brian is all of these. But, before you get discouraged, read further. Brian also is, in my view, a miracle worker. After I retired, somehow lunches with friends became commonplace. I ate with abandon. Sure, I noticed that clothes were a little tighter and my face was a little (no a lot) fuller, but I refused to accept the fact that I was getting FAT. I made many excuses, then when I thought that taking off weight might be a good idea, I tried diets that promised to take the weight off effortlessly. Of course, none of them worked. When I started working with Brian I found that taking off weight is hard work and often no fun at all. How I would love to have an extra handful of cashews when getting together with friends but I refrain. Chocolate is my middle name, but I found I am able to be satisfied with a small candy bar (46 calories) instead of a handful of chocolate bars. So, I worked hard to follow Brian's directions (often calling him names as I struggled with weights). In 18 months I dropped 48 pounds and I am darned proud of myself and intend to stick to the program. Oh yes, the expensive part...Brian's fees are very reasonable. The "expensive" moniker is based on the fact that I have to buy all new clothes and give the old ones away. They no longer fit. So, now when I call Brian names, I always say "Thank You" as well.   Thank you, Brian.                                    Susan

     A ball, a fork and a rope…

I know a strange combination.  But these three things have transformed my
life.  As  many of you know, I am a musician and play around town outside of
my full time gig with Frontier Airlines.  Last April, Hazel Miller (the great jazz/rb
singer) called me to perform with her group.  I showed up at the gig and was
amazed.  Hazel looked incredible.  She had lost weight, gotten in shape and
was like a completely different person.  She was lifting speakers over her head,
she was loading the van and her energy on stage was amazing – I was blown away!
I asked her what she did to get so fit.  She told me Brian Barkley did this to her.
Brian is her fitness trainer.  She had heard about him from Tom Martino,
who Brian had also worked with to get him in shape.

I called Brian the next day and set up an appointment.

Like many people, I’ve struggled with my weight really since I began my
professional life.  Eating on the run, drinking micro brews, eating crappy (and
greasy!) appetizers at after-hours events.  At one point, I topped out at 230 lbs –
(ughh!).   I’ve tried Atkins, Body for Life, weight watchers, South Beach,
Slim Fast, and about every fad diet that every existed….I could never get it to
stick.  I was really embarrassed when I showed up to play a celebrity golf
tournament last Spring and they handed me a shirt that was XXL.  I was seriously
starting to worry about high cholesterol, heart disease – I also just didn’t like the
way I looked or felt.   I was completely discouraged.

When I first went to see Brian, he gave me a game plan and guaranteed me if I
stuck with it, I would get in the best shape of my life.  He wasn’t kidding.

Here’s where the ball, the fork and the rope come in.

Brian is a regular guy. He understands that losing weight and getting fit is a
struggle and he’s develops workout programs that are right for his clients
based on their goals and their lifestyles.  He gave me a big rubber ball, a tension
rope and a set of exercises - it truly is amazing the type of intense workout you
can get from a rope and ball.  He even gave me a set of exercises I do when I’m
traveling.  He also taught me how to take the fork out of my mouth through simple
nutritional advice about eating the right types and the correct amount of food to
give me the best nutritional value for my body.   Simply put, I lost weight and got
in shape the old fashioned way – I exercised a lot more and ate a lot better and a
      whole lot less.

Never in my life did I think that I would lose 21 pounds in less than four months.
I did it - I went from 219 lbs to 198 lbs.   Never in my life did I think I’d see my waist
size go from a 42 to a 36.  I did it – I’ve basically had to get a new wardrobe.  It is
such an incredible feeling to get up in the morning, motivated, energetic and
excited about working out.  Last weekend, I climbed to the top of
Mt. Elbert,
Colorado’s tallest fourteener.  I felt like I was flying up the mountain – the view
from the top was particularly sweet knowing how hard I had worked getting in
      shape.

Yes its hard work, and I had to make a serious, serious commitment to following
through on the plan, but believe me, after a while you get addicted to your daily
workout and you start paying a lot more attention to what goes in your mouth.

I don’t make recommendations lightly -  But I will tell you, if you are willing to
make a change in your life and take the step to getting fit, and losing weight I
encourage you to set up an appointment with Brian.                Andrew

Functional Conditioning has been a life saver for me. Brian, I can’t thank you enough
for not only improving my health, but boosting my self esteem.

Hey Brian,

Thanks for your help getting ready for my bighorn sheep hunt.  I got a
great Ram and lived through it.  I had two guys go with me to help me
out and I almost kept up with them.  They do this for a living and they
are 26 and 31 years old.  Since I'm 50 I felt pretty good about it.

This trip was the toughest of my hunting trips and without your help I
would not have been successful.  We spent three days going up and down
boulder fields and mountain sides at 12,000' to 13,500'.  All the time
carrying a pretty heavy load.

I'm 18 years old and I never thought I would need a personal trainer, at
least not for some time. I thought, "I'm young I don't need to worry
about eating healthy or exercising.". But that changed in June of 2003 when I
decided to enlist in the Marine Corp. I realized very quickly that I
needed to get in shape fast if I'm going to be successful in Boot Camp. I went
to Brian and told him my goals of being the best when I ship off and he
said it was no problem. I've worked with Brian for about 8 months and because
of him I feel confident that I could leave for Boot Camp right now and tear it
up.
I eat a lot healthier now, and I actually enjoy eating food without the
typical four pounds of sugar that teenagers usually consume in one
setting. There's no other way to describe it, I feel great. I really enjoy going
to see Brian and working out with him, even when he makes me do the endless
amount of squats. Without Brian's help, I know I would never have
got this far and felt this good. Thanks Brian!

I cannot recommend highly enough a friend of mine, Brian Barkley.
He is an athletic trainer who has worked with sports stars, trains local
celebrities like Tom Martino, but is best at training regular folks like you and me.
Though I am a medical professional and have read extensively on nutrition and
exercise physiology, he has helped me get into shape more than anything or
anyone else has.
Their are lots of trainers in the world, and a lot of them will make you
sore, you'll get discouraged and quit.  I have sent Brian patients of
mine in all kinds of health situations - post- heart attack, severe diabetes,
after injuries - and after fitness and metabolic testing, he designs
an exercise program unique to each individual.  I like Brian a lot because he
won't kill my patients by working them too hard too soon, and because
he gets results.  Not fast results, not miraculous results, but real
solid results that last.  Plus, he doesn't try to sell his clients lots of
expensive vitamins and herbs they wouldn't need if they ate right in
the first place.  His services are not cheap, but likewise they are
certainly not expensive, especially when compared to the products listed on
this website, and especially not considering the lost wages and medical bills
for diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
With Brian's help I have lost only about 25 pounds (225 down to
198), but my body fat percentage has dropped considerably, my cholesterol
and triglycerides are now normal, I used to bicep curl 20 pounds and can
now curl 50, I sleep better, my clothes fit better, I feel much better, I can
work all day in the yard and not get winded, can run 8 miles on a rough trail
in 72 minutes without stopping.  This has taken almost 2 years, and I
hope to do even better. I am consistent with exercise and keep an overall
watch on my diet, but I don't take any diet aids, and I still eat cookies and
drink milk before bedtime.
Check out his website, don't waste your money on gimmicks.  Do the real thing.
Do it for the rest of your life.
        Yours Truly, John
I got a very pleasant surprise this morning. I put on my size 8 Levi's
and I was able to button them and I'm wearing them comfortably. Wooohooo!!!!!
You're awesome! Thank you for your help and support. I wasn't able to do it
on my own, I'm so glad you've stuck by me and encouraged me. Karen
Brian,
I was curious about how many inches I have whittled away since I have
been working with you. To satisfy my curiosity, I added them all up. I
was thinking it was somewhere around 20 inches. I was so far off. I have
lost 33.25 inches total. Talk about WOW!
I just wanted to share that with you. Thanks for keeping me inspired
and helping me to get in the best shape of my life. I appreciate all you
do. Ericka

Thanks Brian - and also, thanks for your help, inspiration and motivation.  You have helped me accomplish things I never thought possible and it means a lot - it has changed my life actually.

Brian,
You truly are an inspiration!  You helped me find myself - that happy, energetic and fit person who somehow got lost inside an overweight and overwrought body.  I too have found my passion - helping others lose weight, improve their health and energy through better nutrition and in some cases even start their own businesses.  I changed my life and I couldn't be happier - and my passion is helping other people do the same thing.  Thanks for being my partner on the journey!
                                                                                                    Carole

Brian:
I thoroughly enjoyed hearing the story of your history and how you came to be where you are.  You encourage me every time I come in and it is a time of positive reinforcement during the stressful times you know are in my life.
                                    Sheryl

Brian,

You are a big part of how I look. I am really following your direction. I think you could do more training like you do with me. I am getting good core strength and conditioning. Tom Martino

Brian,

I have enough clothes I can fit into to go to Florida for vacation! Smack!!!!! Thank you! I'm still not into all of my clothes, but at least a few so I don't have to buy new clothes to go on vacation. I still have a long ways to go, but I'm a lot further than I was, thanks to your help. Carla

Brian,

I want to thank you for your encouragement. It's good to have someone that will motivate you just that little more...I am so psyched over the results that I'm seeing and living with.

Thanks for your help! Mark

Brian,

You have changed my life!! Thank you for helping me feel better at 60 years old then at any other time of my life. Marilyn

Dear Brian:

I would like to express my "Thanks" for giving me the tools to finally lose the extra weight that I felt helpless to shed.  My personal journey began about 2 years ago when I literally tried every diet I could find. I had a good 20 extra pounds that keep me from participating in life.  Going to the beach, wearing shorts. Mind you, they always had some sort of gimmick or easy way to shed the pounds.  Eat this, don't eat that, exercise more, etc.  I felt that it was me, something was wrong with me.  I had my thyroid checked several times, my hormones, anything that would keep me from losing weight.  I would consider myself an active person, but the pounds just keep creeping up on me.  I couldn't even lose 1-lb, and struggled with poor self esteem.  I recently ended my 8 month battle with frustration eating the Suzanne Somers way, I was reading about all the successes and again, felt that it was me.  When I read about having your personal RMR read, I thought it couldn't hurt!  What I wasn't prepared for was the pounds and inches that were disappearing in 4 weeks time.  I was shocked, elated, happy and couldn't believe how easy it was.  All this time the missing key was calories, something so basic, so simple, but I neglected it all this time.  Keeping the food log is a life saver, and the "Balance Log" is so easy to use.  I don't know if I would have been so dedicated had it not been for the "Balance Log."  The success I've experienced in a short 4 weeks is amazing to me.  I will tell everyone that will listen...........  Thank you Brian for being so supportive, helpful, and knowledgeable, I feel like you changed my life.  I'm healthier and much happier in 2003. Rindy Leeds

I started training with Brian in October after a steady weight gain of 20+ pounds and a reversal to a sedentary life.  I knew I would be much more successful with the help of professional guidance, advice and support.  When I began the program I was working out in baggy sweatpants and feeling terrible about myself. Now I feel almost normal in exercise shorts!  Each month we changed my workout to make it more challenging and inspiring.  My body fat percentage has dropped from 29% to 23% and I have shifted fat to muscle.  I have dropped one full clothing size! I changed the way I ate and have faithfully been eating breakfast.  I'm eating a 40/30/30 food plan that I initially reported to Brian by email (to keep me honest).

I also used my training to help others by training for and participating in (and completing) the Avon Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk in San Diego April 12-14, 2002.  I joined 3,400 other women and men in walking 60 miles in 3 days and raising almost $6,000 dollars for breast cancer organizations. Neshama
