From Cancer Survivor to Personal Fitness Trainer

Recently, I have had the privilege of working with some of you at Functional Conditioning. However, most of you don’t know me. With this newsletter, it is my intention to provide some insightful inspiration into the health and fitness world, and to show you my passion for it.

I am Bob Wolfe, Certified Personal Trainer, with certifications from National Personal Training Institute (NPTI), and National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

I have been working with Brian at Functional Conditioning for over one year now.  Originally, I was a client that came to Brian just over four years ago. At the age of forty six, I decided to become a runner. Part of the problem was, that at the age of eighteen, I was diagnosed with a debilitating form of cancer. Due to four major surgeries to my left chest and shoulder area, radiation, chemotherapy, and various other forms of treatment, my physical abilities were very limited.

Although my background was in physical education and recreation, due to my physical limitations and lack of knowledge, I never really completed rehabilitation. Long story short, this is where Brian and Functional Conditioning came in. I worked with Brian for almost two years, utilizing his programs to the fullest. This included strength training, cardio training, nutrition and massage therapy. Since that time, I have completed six half-marathons, one full marathon, one triathlon, and several duathlons. Most recently, I participated in The Lance Armstrong Livestrong Challenge, which included a seventy mile bike ride.  A few weeks later, I followed up with a century ride, (one hundred miles). None of this could have been possible without the tools of health, nutrition and fitness training received from Functional Conditioning.

Turning Passion into Pleasure

Since meeting Brian, I felt in my heart a desire to be a part of the health and fitness world. I took a leap of faith, quit my job and enrolled in school to become a Personal Fitness Trainer. This has been the best move of my life! Now, I am able to take my passion for health, fitness and nutrition and share it with each of you.

My passion includes working with cancer survivors and people that are currently being treated for cancer. I also enjoy working with people in the one-on-one environment at Functional Conditioning. Many times, a gym can be very overwhelming and intimidating. Functional Conditioning is a perfect place to workout, and address all of your health and fitness needs.

This has been a life changing experience, from being told that you have cancer with a zero percent chance of survival, to sharing this awesome world of health, fitness and nutrition with each one of you. Each and everyday, when I step into Functional Conditioning, I am encouraged by seeing and hearing all of the success stories.

This lifestyle, that all of you choose, is a journey, not a destination. I look forward to meeting and working with many more of you, to achieve your health and fitness goals.

Client of the Month

Terry has been coming in to Functional Conditioning since January 2007. She had never exercised before. Her situation is unique in that Terry works in the wine and beer industry,  often spending a lot of time eating and drinking on the job. Not only has Terry made a complete lifestyle change, she competed in her first Triathlon this year. I enjoy working with Terry. She always has a positive attitude, and never complains about her workouts!!!

Read what Terry has to say about Functional Conditioning:

I think the biggest thing for me has been that I wanted to do “something” to be healthy and to change my ways…I had no idea that I was personally capable of affecting such dramatic change in myself. Of course, the weight loss has been great, but the way I feel has been even greater! This reinforces to me that you can do anything, if you really put your mind (and discipline!) to it! If I can do something like this, truly, anyone can! After 41 years of a pretty unhealthy life, if I can make a lifestyle change, then just about any one else can do the same. Brian, thank you, you and my new program has been an enhancement to my life, not an additional item on my to do list!
